Last year, I had contacted the Adelaide city council about building a parkour park.
They were actually very excited about it because it is something 'new and arty'
Also, having the first and only parkour park in Australia, would attract people from differents places.
I was working with Felonius from the APA (Australian Parkour Association) along with the council.
I made it clear to the council that Parkour was serious and wasnt going to just 'die out'
and we didnt want it to end up like skating, so both parties wanted to create a positive scene.
We needed to get a grant of coarse.
But we also needed to raise awareness of parkour before something like this could take place,
We then started working with CarClew Youth Arts Group to put on a parkour presentation of some sort
during the festivals.
Something that would attract youths and create an understanding amoung the adults.
,,,,,,,,
This was all a great idea, until we decided not to do it.
Felonius suggested, and I agreed, that the best way to introduce parkour positivley, was to educate about it properly.
We decided that workshops and 'come and try' events, interacting instead of creating a spectator sport, would
be the best way of bringing it in.
And lets be realistic, no matter how nice the parkour park is, the city wont get what they want, there will still be traceurs parkouring the city. like skaters, and who can blame them? Traceurs dont want to be confined to one place anyway, so we wouldn't be meeting them half way there.
This way, people would understand it, be able to practice it safely, and we wouldnt get such a bad image if we were to have a mature attitude about it.
,,,,,,,,,
The council then, also agreed with us and told us that it was a wise decision and that they would support what we feel we need to do.
This was a better outcome as we have earned the positive image from the council and some respect and better understanding of eachother needs.

So for now , in Adelaide, Felonius is just going to run so unofficial training sessions where newbies can come and have a try and learn how to train properly. And in the future, why not hold somekind of local parkour event? maybe a BBQ or something?
Nothing flashy or expensive, just to get together with fellow traceurs, raise some interest and have fun!
